Search for New AIIMS Director: Applications Now Open, ETHealthworld

New Delhi: More than two months after former AIIMS director Dr M Srinivas moved to NITI Aayog, the Centre has begun the search for a full-time AIIMS director, inviting applications from Indian nationals, NRIs and persons of Indian origin.
With the recruitment process now formally under way, Prof Nikhil Tandon, head of department of endocrinology, will continue as interim director till govt appoints a full-time successor.
Among the probables are Prof Neena Malhotra of obstetrics and gynaecology, Prof Naveet Wig of internal medicine, Prof Uma Kumar of rheumatology, Prof Sanjay Rai of community medicine and Prof Sudhir Gupta, head of forensic medicine. Officials, however, cautioned that the selection process has only just begun and no formal shortlist has been drawn up.
AIIMS Delhi has historically drawn many of its directors from within its own faculty ranks, although the final appointment is made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet after a search and selection process.
Candidates must possess a postgraduate qualification in medicine, surgery or public health, have at least 10 years of teaching and research experience, and a minimum of 25 years’ standing in the profession, according to the advertisement.
The applicants must also have extensive administrative experience in medical education, research, public health or healthcare institutions.
The upper age limit has been fixed at 62 years. The selected candidate will hold office for five years or until attaining the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
