PM’s AYUSH Premium Mark push sparks rise in global demand for ‘Made in India’ homeopathy: Experts, ETHealthworld

New Delhi, India’s homeopathy sector is experiencing a strong surge in demand, both within the country and across international markets, fuelled by growing consumer confidence in quality-assured “Made in India” medicines, experts have said.

The momentum follows the government’s push under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen global credibility through the AYUSH Premium Mark initiative, a move that is steadily reshaping India’s position in the global homeopathy landscape.

Dr Subhash Kaushik, Director General, CCRH, Ayush Ministry, said that over the past year, the integration of stricter quality frameworks and certifications has transformed perceptions around Indian homeopathy.

“Once largely seen as a domestic strength, the sector is now gaining recognition as a credible global player,” he told PTI.

Dr Kaushik underlined that the AYUSH Premium Mark, introduced to certify products that meet international quality benchmarks, has become a key differentiator.

It ensures adherence to stringent manufacturing standards aligned with global protocols, including WHO-recommended practices.

“Complementing this, NABL accreditation brings an added layer of assurance by validating testing processes against internationally accepted standards of accuracy and reliability. Together, these frameworks are strengthening trust among both practitioners and consumers worldwide,” Dr Kaushik stated.

Speaking on this transformation, Rajeshwar Tiwari, senior representative from the Ministry of AYUSH, highlighted the growing impact of these initiatives.

“India has always had a strong foundation in homeopathy, but we are now seeing a clear increase in demand as quality assurance systems become more visible and reliable. The AYUSH Premium Mark is helping build confidence not only among domestic consumers but also in international markets.

“This growing demand reflects a shift towards recognising India as a dependable source of high-quality homeopathic medicines,” Tiwari said.

Among the companies aligning with these quality frameworks, Adven Biotech is one of the early adopters to receive both the AYUSH Premium Mark and NABL certification.

This development reflects a broader industry trend where manufacturers are increasingly moving towards internationally benchmarked standards, contributing to improved credibility and acceptance of Indian homeopathy products, Tiwari stated.

Adesh Sharma, CEO of Adven Biotech, noted the changing dynamics in the market.

“We are seeing a noticeable shift in how Indian homeopathy is perceived. Consumers today are more aware and quality-conscious, and certifications like AYUSH Premium and NABL give them the confidence they were looking for,” Sharma said.

What is encouraging is that this trust is now extending beyond India into international markets. Manufacturers have long had the capability, but structured quality recognition is helping translate that into tangible growth, he stated.

“The increase in demand we are witnessing reflects this transition and points to larger opportunities ahead.”

The rise in demand is being driven by multiple factors. Domestically, there is a growing preference for certified and standardised alternative medicine solutions, particularly among urban consumers, Sharma explained.

Internationally, the adoption of globally aligned certifications is enabling Indian companies to access more regulated markets, where quality assurance is a critical requirement. As a result, India is increasingly being viewed as a reliable sourcing hub for homeopathic medicines, Sharma said.

Sharma added, “The significance of the AYUSH Premium Mark in this journey lies in its role as a global quality benchmark. It assures that products meet the highest standards required for international acceptance, especially in export markets. Meanwhile, NABL accreditation ensures that testing and validation processes maintain scientific consistency and precision. Together, these certifications create a robust framework that supports long-term trust and scalability.”

For years, German homeopathy brands have been widely regarded as the global standard.

However, the landscape is gradually evolving, he said.

“With a strong practitioner base, extensive clinical experience, and now the backing of internationally recognised quality systems, India is building the capacity to compete more effectively with established players.

The combination of scale, affordability, and improved quality assurance is strengthening India’s position in the global market,” Sharma stated.
